Impact of Mobile Banking on Consumptive Behavior Among Generation Z in Jakarta Using PLS-SEM Analysis

The increasing adoption of mobile banking among Gen Z in urban areas, such as DKI Jakarta, has significantly impacted consumer behavior, particularly in the realm of financial management. This study aims to explore the factors influencing consumptive behavior among Gen Z users of mobile banking apps, utilizing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) framework. A quantitative research approach employing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS SEM) was applied to analyze data from 423 respondents. The study identifies performance expectancy, effort expectancy, hedonic motivation, habit, and facilitating conditions as significant predictors of behavioral intention to use mobile banking apps. However, social influence and price value were found to have an insignificant effect on behavioral intention. Furthermore, the research confirms that behavioral intention positively influences both use behavior and consumptive behavior. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating self control features into mobile banking apps to mitigate impulsive spending behaviors among users. This study contributes to understanding the role of mobile banking in shaping the financial habits of Gen Z, offering valuable insights for banks and policymakers to design more effective, user friendly mobile banking solutions. Future research could further investigate the moderating effects of financial literacy and income level on the relationship between mobile banking usage and consumptive behavior.
