A Hybrid Approach To Enhance The Image Security

In today’s digital age, images must be more protected than ever. Sophisticated methods of encryption are of utmost significance for preventing illicit use and maintaining confidentiality, especially where sensitive visual data such as medical reports and private documents are involved. Encryption addresses this need by converting images into unreadable formats, accessible only with the correct decryption key. However, commonly used methods like AES and Triple DES suffer from drawbacks such as slow processing speeds and vulnerabilities to statistical and side-channel attacks. To overcome these limitations, chaos-based encryption techniques have emerged as viable alternatives. These methods effectively obscure patterns in image data using properties such as non-linearity, high sensitivity to initial conditions, and strong resistance to statistical analysis.In this work, we present a hybrid image encryption approach that combines a 1D logistic chaotic map with a hyperchaotic Lorenz system, generating complex pseudorandom sequences for robust image encryption. A novel hexadecimal key-seeding mechanism is employed to enhance key sensitivity and randomness. Simulation results—including NPCR, UACI, and correlation coefficient analysis—demonstrate the proposed method’s effectiveness in resisting cryptographic attacks and preserving data confidentiality.
