Decoupling and Matching Network for 8 × 8 Near-field MIMO using Dipole Antenna

Close spacing of antennas leads to complex interconnect layouts in PCB scenarios. This bottleneck scenario prompts researchers to invent new avenues to establish wireless communication links in near-field. Strong mutual coupling exists and remains a challenge in overcoming this issue. In this work, the usefulness of the antenna current Green’s function for the modelling of the antenna response to the illumination near-fields studied. A decoupling and matching network is proposed for an 8 × 8 near-field multiple-input-multiple-output system using dipoles to overcome mutual coupling effect. Simulation study is carried out using CEM tool. Results show an improved port isolation between port 1 and port 2 by 1.63 dB and an improved coupling of 3.2 dB between port 1 and port 8 in S-parameter plots. Smith charts indicate, with DMN, the impedance circles form loops at the center indicating improved impedance matching.
