Assessing Digital Workplace and Self-Management Impact on Learning Agility in Manufacturing and Infrastructure

In the context of Indonesia’s economic reliance on its manufacturing and infrastructure sectors, fostering an adaptive workforce is critical for navigating the complexities of digital transformation. Learning agility has emerged as a crucial competency for employees, yet the factors influencing it in these specific industries remain underexplored. This study aims to address this gap by empirically examining the key determinants of learning agility among digital-native employees. Specifically, the research investigates the impact of three factors: the organizational-level digital workplace, individual-level self-management skills, and group-level authoritative leadership. A quantitative, survey-based methodology was employed, collecting perceptual data from 412 employees in Indonesia’s manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. The proposed conceptual model was subsequently analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that both the implementation of a digital workplace and the cultivation of employee self-management skills have a significant positive influence on learning agility. Conversely, the effect of authoritative leadership was found to be statistically non-significant. This study concludes that to enhance workforce adaptability, organizations should strategically prioritize the integration of digital workplace technologies and the development of employee self-management capabilities. These initiatives are more impactful for fostering learning agility than traditional, hierarchical leadership styles, offering a clear roadmap for human resource development in an era of industrial change.
