Blender and Unity3D Based Indoor Navigation System: Literature Review

In recent years, the progress of indoor navigation systems has become more prevalent. This research illustrates a implementation of an indoor path navigation system, that uses Unity3D’s NavMesh for AI pathfinding, Blender for realistic 3D models of buildings, and Unity3D Addressables to manage the assets efficiently. This research spoke to the methods, issues, and solutions found in inaugural research of indoor path navigation. The research addressed the implementation of Unity3D for cross-compatibility, methods of optimizing the models within Unity3D, and its indoor navigation solutions. The research also spoke to issues with computational efficiency, real-time navigation and tracking, and resource qualities of mobile applications. The research showed this indoor navigation application with models that were designed in Blender then added to Unity3D using its Addressable Asset System, with a simplistic UI built into a dynamic positioning system. Finally, the research points out opportunities for future research directions on improving performance, scalability, and user experience in indoor navigation systems built with Unity3D.
