KannaDa - A Kannada-based Programming Language Interpreter using Lex and Yacc

In today’s modern world of digitization, programming skills have become very important and in demand. Never-theless, there are many native language speakers, and several of them have weak English proficiency. The paper presents the interpreter for the Kannada-based programming language aimed at bridging a gap in learning and carrying out simple coding tasks by Kannada-speaking people. This interpreter, therefore, attempts to democratize access to technology by facilitating programming education in the native language and reducing dependency on English-based resources. The project puts into practice natural language processing techniques to translate Kannada syntax into executable code, ensuring that native speakers can understand and engage with fundamental coding concepts. Other than this, the interpreter also embeds the localized grammar rules and semantic checks, enabling the user to write and debug the code in a linguistically coherent way. This project does not just aim to ease programming education for Kannada-speaking students but also be scalable to other regional languages in the future. Through this process, we hope to not only promote inclusiveness and accessibility but also enable the native-language speakers to take part in the digital world and improve their technical capabilities.
