Microcontroller-based Short-Circuit Protection for DC Bus Networks

Overhead transmission lines transmit power from one place to another and are widely used in various power transmission systems. In this process, the occurrence of faults is a very common issue. The faults must be verified, identified, and resolved to restore normal operation. Human efforts are involved in repairing the faults that occur, but fault detection can be handled by technology, which saves a lot of time. In this project, faults are intentionally created in a DC transmission system to better understand and detect failures more accurately. In both transmission and distribution systems, an IoT (Internet of Things) fault detector is used for more accurate and efficient problem detection. This project will help the electric board and distribution companies by quickly detecting faults, reducing downtime, and minimizing damage to the transmission or power system. This project kit contains sensing equipment, an LCD display, a Wi-Fi module, loads, a microcontroller, and two different power sources. There are different types of faults that occur in the transmission line network, such as and LLG: Line to Line to Ground, LG: Line to Ground, LL: Line to Line faults. The microcontroller automatically detects faults, analyzes them, and classifies the fault. The Wi-Fi interface helps transmit the information to the electric board company so that they can provide service if any faults or problems have occurred in the transmission lines.
