QCA-Optimized Gate-Free 2:1 Multiplexer

Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is a promising alternative to traditional CMOS technology, addressing key challenges like scaling limitations, high power consumption, and large circuit sizes. This novel study presents a QCA-optimized gate-free 2:1 multiplexer, eliminating traditional logic gates by relying on Columbic force interaction logic. The proposed design significantly reduces cell count and area while improving key performance metrics, including power consumption and speed. Simulation results indicate that the new design outperforms both existing CMOS and QCA multiplexers, achieving a minimal cell count, an area of 0.004 μm², and a latency of 0.12 ns. This makes it an excellent candidate for high-performance, energy-efficient digital circuits. Future research will focus on enhancing fault tolerance and integrating the 2:1 multiplexer into more complex systems. The findings suggest that QCA-based multiplexers can provide a superior alternative to conventional designs, offering both compactness and efficiency for next-generation digital applications.
