Trust and Technology Acceptance Model Driving MOOC Continuance Intention and Sustainability

This study investigates the factors influencing learners sustained engagement with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) to promote educational sustainability, addressing the persistent challenge of high dropout rates. It integrates the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with a trust antecedent to clarify the influence of Perceived Usefulness, ease of use, attitude, and trust on continuance intention. A quantitative approach was employed, collecting data through structured questionnaires from 454 MOOC users in Indonesia. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was utilized for analysis. The findings reveal that Perceived Ease of Use, attitude, and trust significantly impact users continuance intention, with perceived ease of use also influencing Perceived Usefulness. Notably, Perceived Usefulness itself did not directly influence continuance intention. These results suggest a shift in user priorities among the largely young Indonesian demographic. The study concludes that prioritizing user friendly interfaces, fostering positive attitudes, and building trust are crucial for MOOC developers and educators to create successful, reliable, and user centric platforms for long term engagement and sustainability.
