Enhancing the Efficiency of Solar PV Arrays: Passive Filter based Leakage Current Mitigation

In solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, unwanted leakage currents often arise due to parasitic capacitance between system components and the ground, leading to reduced efficiency and potential safety hazards. This paper presents a hybrid solution combining passive filtering with adaptive control to address these challenges. Passive filters act as protective elements by providing a high-impedance path at specific frequencies, effectively diverting high-frequency leakage currents away from vital circuitry. To further enhance system performance, a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is implemented, enabling real-time adjustments based on varying environmental conditions such as temperature and solar irradiance. While the FLC alone does not eliminate leakage currents, it complements the filter design by improving the system’s responsiveness and overall operational stability. The integration of these methods leads to a more robust, efficient, and reliable solar PV energy system.
