PSO MPPT based Control Framework for Photovoltaic Systems to enhance Power Quality

This paper presents a pioneering approach for modelling of photovoltaic (PV) – solar systems with an optimization algorithm such as particle swarm optimization (PSO). The power generation from the PV systems is inherently intermittent nature. Due to high penetration of PV systems power quality issues arise such as voltage fluctuations, current harmonic distortion resulting in this can degrade the overall performance of the grid connected network. To solve this problem a PSO based MPPT control approach is presented in this work. The PSO algorithm continuously adjusts the operating conditions of the solar panels, ensuring they operate at maximum efficiency irrespective of its intermittent atmospheric scenarios. For integrating PV-solar system with grid the power converters (DC-DC converters and inverters) play a significant role. The performance of the grid incorporated PV systems is highly dependent on the operation of these power converters. For operating power converts well and interface grid and PV systems an effective control strategy is essential. To achieve this implemented an appropriate solution by utilizing Expectation-Conjugate-Gradient (ECG) control technique. Additionally, to solve grid synchronization problem, estimated symmetrical components of voltage and current profiles precisely a second order-generalized integrated (SOGI) and phase locked loops (PLL) are employed. The established PSO based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method for bifacial PV systems in this work extract peak power from PV array. The main objective of this work is to reduce the current harmonics and improve the power quality of grid connected PV system. To analyze performance of the proposed method simulation study conducted on PV system incorporated with unbalanced grid conditions.
