An IoT-Enabled Mobile Robot for AI-Powered Object Detection

This paper presents the design and implementation of a mobile robot utilizing an IoT-enabled architecture for AI-powered remote control and monitoring. The system relies on IoT as its core framework, enabling wireless communication across various domains, including transportation, healthcare, precision agriculture, traffic control, environmental monitoring, coal mines, and Industry 4.0 etc. The mobile robotic system integrates a wireless ESP32-CAM module with sensors and actuators to enhance mobility and enable rapid image acquisition. A mobile application, developed for both Android and web platforms, facilitates the capture and storage of images and videos on the IoT ThinkSpeak platform. The ESP32-CAM offers key advantages, such as built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and the capability to capture high-quality images efficiently, providing flexibility in system architecture development through open-source libraries. An experimental prototype of the mobile robotic system has been developed, demonstrating its effectiveness in environmental monitoring. The prototype enables real-time image acquisition and object recognition using an AI-powered algorithm. Additionally, a Python-based program is employed for image processing and object identification. Hence, this IoT-enabled mobile robotic system proves an effective tool for real-time monitoring and rapid object identification, making it highly valuable in different robotic applications.
