Hydro-Thermal-Wind Power Generation Scheduling Using Black Widow Optimization Approach

This research study introduces an advanced black widow optimization (BWO) approach for hydrothermal scheduling incorporating wind power generation, addressing the unit commitment (UC) problem for a practical transmission network. The network under consideration experiences a fluctuation in load demand ranging between 300 MW, and the proposed topology ensures compliance with the security constraints of the system. The primary objective is to establish an economically optimal generation schedule for a portfolio of power plants comprising hydropower (HP), thermal power (TP), and wind power (WP). The concept uses leverage to reduce generation costs while conforming to operational limitations. The impact of ramp rate limitations on generation costs is systematically evaluated in the context of the test system. In addition, sensitivity analysis is carried out by adjusting ramp rate parameters to determine their impact on system performance and cost efficiency. The entire analysis is implemented and validated using MATLAB Simulation, demonstrating superior results and a significantly cost-effective comparative evaluation.
