Network and Traffic Management Dashboard: Revolutionizing Traffic Management through common situation awareness and collaborative decision support systems

In modern traffic management, the increasing challenges of urbanization and the need for sustainable mobility solutions have created a growing demand for advanced tools that reduce congestion and enhance safety. Existing traffic management dashboards often focus on the needs of a single stakeholder, limiting broader collaboration across the transport network. This paper presents an integrated system that combines advanced traffic visualization dashboards and mobile applications to facilitate seamless coordination among multiple stakeholders. By leveraging real-time data visualization, predictive traffic analytics, and incident management tools, the system enhances decision-making and enables rapid responses to evolving traffic conditions. These features support the broader vision of smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable urban mobility. The dashboard acts as a centralized platform for operators, offering key functionalities such as real-time network monitoring, incident verification, and collaborative response planning. Predictive models provide both short-term and long-term forecasts, enabling proactive congestion mitigation and improved traffic flow. Pilot testing demonstrated the effectiveness of incident escalation, response plan ranking, and shared situational awareness, leading to notable improvements in response coordination and operational efficiency. This paper outlines the design and development methodology of the system, emphasizing its user-driven approach, technical architecture, and real-time data processing capabilities. The Athens pilot implementation showcased how the system enhances situational awareness, facilitates cross-agency collaboration, and improves traffic management strategies. Findings highlight faster response times, improved decision-making processes, and enhanced data harmonization, while also identifying key challenges related to scalability and integration. The paper concludes with key insights, lessons learned, and future directions for advancing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
