Industry 5.0: Advancing a Research Agenda at the Intersection of Sustainability and Human-Centricity Enabled through Technology

Industry 5.0 marks a transformative shift from Industry 4.0, emphasizing sustainability, human-centricity, and resilience, with technology as a key enabler. This scoping review explores these pillars and their interconnected roles in shaping the future of industry. Sustainability encompasses economic, environmental, and social dimensions, ensuring long-term viability. Human-centricity focuses on designing human-in-theloop workflows, addressing cognitive biases, ethics, fears, psychological and social factors, emerging human-centric risks, and evolving industry roles and skills. Technologies such as cobots and cognitive artificial intelligence serve as foundational enablers, enhancing production efficiency, resource optimization, and product quality. Resilience in Industry 5.0 is an expected outcome that follows from the strategic integration of sustainability and human-centricity, enabled by advanced technology. This paper highlights the critical role of these elements in fostering a more adaptive, efficient, and human-friendly industrial ecosystem. As a next step in our ongoing research, we plan to develop and test a model involving supply chain management within the Industry 5.0 framework.
