Automated maritime movement analysis for special-interest targets

Marine traffic analysis and monitoring is a critical tool for a variety of special interest applications beyond commercial navigation, such as area surveillance and military applications. This paper presents a study on an automated sea track analysis system that has the capability to process data in real-time, calculate speed and direction of targets of special interest, and clean up noisy or incomplete tracks that may be present.The methodology is based on maintaining recent movement points through a queue structure, calculating geodetic distance using the WGS84 model, extracting direction through bearing calculation, and incorporating interpolation techniques to restore lost or unrealistic data. In addition, dynamic filtering of extremely high velocities as abnormal values is applied. The system is implemented in Python using the geopy, pandas, folium, and watchdog libraries, and provides parallel visualization of the target's trajectory on an interactive HTML map.This approach allows extracting meaningful information from volatile and raw data, providing a real-time target tracking tool adapted to non-commercial conditions, such as surveillance of areas of special interest.
