Digital Escape Room #1 - Integrating Green Energy into Sustainable University Environments

In this paper, we present a digital escape room, developed as part of the Erasmus+ project MATH-DIGGER - Mathematics Digital Escape Rooms. This resource is intended to help educators plan the integration of the escape room into their mathematics curriculum, particularly for first-year students enrolled in STEM programs. The escape room is based on a compelling futuristic narrative that sets the stage for immersive problem-solving and learning. Within this scenario, students are tasked with completing mathematical challenges while also engaging with broader sustainability topics. Through this experience, students are encouraged to recognize the importance of sustainability, green energy, and the circular economy, aligning with the priorities of the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals. They also develop an understanding of key strategies for building a sustainable environment, applying mathematical concepts to calculate carbon footprints. In addition, they follow technical instructions to interact with a 3D digital environment. As they progress, they explore the practical applications of calculus through gamified m ath-tasks solving. Overall, this innovative educational tool combines mathematical learning with environmental awareness, providing an engaging and interactive experience that fosters both academic growth and sustainable thinking.
