Proposed Vehicle Impact Detection Method Helping Determine Risk Factors to Containers in Port Terminals

this study presents an innovative approach to detecting and analyzing vehicle impacts within port terminal environments, focusing on Klaipeda Port Terminal. The research utilized accelerometer-based data logging systems, proposing an event-driven data capture and storage method. The equipment was mounted on containers transported by trucks, enabling the identification of impacts arising from various sources, including loading and unloading operations, uneven road surfaces, potholes, sewer lids, and railway crossings. By pinpointing specific locations and events that pose risks to cargo integrity, the proposed method offers valuable insights for mitigating damage during transportation and handling processes. The findings have the potential to improve operational efficiency, enhance cargo safety, and support infrastructure maintenance strategies in port terminals.
