Enhancing Synchronization and Error-Correction Performances Under Low C/N Condition Based on ISDB-S3 for 12-GHz-band Satellite Broadcasting

We are developing a new system for 12-GHz-band satellite broadcasting, which enables to use a small receiving antenna instead of conventional dish antennas for the general public. To achieve this, it is desired to enhance the noise resistance of ISDB-S3, the current transmission system for 12-GHz-band satellite broadcasting in Japan. In this study, we propose a transmission method that improves both synchronization and forward error correction (FEC) performances by incorporating known signals while keeping the basic framework of the existing ISDB-S3. Our simulation showed that the synchronization was established when C/N was as low as -10 dB, and its required C/N achieved -6.7 dB after the FEC.
