Evaluation on Interference Cancellation Enhancement Solution for UAV Communication

The widespread deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in communication has highlighted unique interference challenges, which have garnered increasing attention. This paper investigates the primary interference factors in UAV communications, including cell coverage limitations, signal interference, uplink interference, antenna design, signal selection, and the asymmetry between uplink and downlink channels. To mitigate these challenges, a UAV communication enhancement framework based on interference cancellation is proposed. The approach centers on advancements in technical standards, such as interference detection mechanisms, the expansion of the radio resource management (RRM) measurement framework, and improvements in uplink power control. Moreover, the study evaluates the impact of directional receiving and transmitting antennas on the throughput of terrestrial user equipment (UE) and UAV UE under varying communication conditions. The findings demonstrate that directional antennas significantly improve the communication quality of UAV UE while reducing interference to terrestrial UE. Finally, recommendations for network deployment based on the enhancement solutions proposed by 3GPP, such as FD-MIMO, and the improvement of the interference detection and reporting mechanism, are provided. The evaluation results indicate that the proposed solution can lead to significant improvements in the anti-interference capabilities of UAV communication systems and the overall spectrum utilization.
