Transport Layer Signaling for LCI/GSL in TV 3.0

This article reviews the Transport Layer signaling expected in TV 3.0 and presents two use cases for Local Content Insertion (LCI) via Geographic Segmented Localcast (GSL) technology, considering Frequency-Division Multiplexing (FDM) and Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM) multiplexing schemes.In FDM, all transmitters need to transmit the main content and all the regionalized content that will constitute the Single-Frequency Network (SFN) network. In LDM, it is possible to transmit the main content in the Core Layer (CL) and only one regionalized content (assigned to the region of the transmission tower) in the Enhanced Layer (EL). It is important to note that LCI/GSL technology can also be used in hybrid multiplexing schemes (combinations of FDM, Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) and LDM techniques).Finally, the setup for operating LCI/GSL technology, considering FDM and LDM multiplexing schemes, is presented and latency results between content and Advertisings (ADs) switching are discussed.
