Hybrid-Capacitor-Based Quasi-Single-Stage Three-Phase AC/DC Converter for Pulsed Power Load

A quasi-single-stage three-phase ac-dc converter with a passive/active-hybrid capacitor (PAHC) is proposed for pulsed power load applications. The PAHC not only provides pulsed decoupling power but also stabilizes the load voltage by leveraging the complementary characteristics of its output voltages. Meanwhile, the architecture of the three-phase dual output ac-dc converter supplying power to the PAHC creates two power paths, forming a quasi-single-stage structure. A modified carrier-based pulsed width modulation (CBPWM) strategy is proposed to enhance the power transfer ratio of the single-stage power path and effectively reduce the equivalent power conversion stages, thereby improving the system efficiency. In this paper, the circuit configuration, operating principle, and advantages of the proposed pulsed power supply (PPS) are thoroughly analyzed. The control strategy of the system is studied, and the main parameter design methods are provided. An experimental platform with a pulsed peak power of 7200 W is built, and the experimental results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
