Iterative Detection for Phase-shifter-aided Spatial Multiplexing with Superposition Coded Modulation

Phase-shifter-aided spatial multiplexing (PSSM) has recently emerged as an efficient multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique with reduced radio frequency (RF) chains. In this contribution, a novel superposition-coded-modulation (SCM)-assisted PSSM system is proposed, which introduces a flexible extension of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellation in the baseband and significantly improves the bit error rate (BER) performance. Moreover, leveraging the prior constraints of PSSM, a novel iterative detection algorithm is also tailored for the proposed SCM-PSSM system. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed iterative detection method significantly enhances the performance of SCM-PSSM systems compared to its conventional counterparts.
