Calculation and Analysis of Turn-to-turn Short Faults of Power Transformer by TRSim

This paper conducts a study on the calculation and analysis of the electromagnetic field of a 500kV single-phase step-up transformer, using the FEM software TRSim, independently developed by the CSG Electric Power Research Institute. A detailed simulation calculation model of the transformer, including the core, winding, magnetic shielding, and oil tank, was established. The accuracy of the model was verified by comparing the designed and calculated values of the short-circuit impedance using the energy method. The internal coil circuit connections of the step-up transformer were established, and the turn-to-turn short faults in the first disk of the high-voltage winding was calculated by field-circuit coupled method. The short-circuit current waveform and short-circuit forces after the faults were obtained. This study provides a reference for analyzing turn-to-turn short faults in power transformer, and effective guidance for the design, operation and maintenance of power transformer.
