Application of Distributed Optical Fiber Temperature Measurement in Smart Cables

This paper studies a distributed optical fiber temperature measurement system using smart cables, which combines fiber Bragg grating arrays and multi-core communication fibers for monitoring high-voltage power transmission lines. The system utilizes Raman scattering and optical time-domain reflectometry to enable precise, long-distance, and wide-area temperature measurements. Laboratory tests on single-mode fibers within the smart cable demonstrated temperature sensitivity with a measurement range from $-30^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ to $85^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$. The system achieved a positioning accuracy of $\pm 1 \mathrm{~m}$, a temperature accuracy of $\pm 1^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$, and a spatial resolution of 2 m. The distributed optical fiber temperature measurement system provides real-time temperature data, enabling alert settings for risk mitigation and enhancing the operational safety of power transmission lines, and this approach can contribute to more reliable and efficient power grid management.
