Airborne Laser Target Dynamic Tracking System Based on Inertial Reference Unit

A target fine tracking system based on inertial reference unit (IRU) is designed to improve the line of sight (LOS) stabilization performance of the photoelectric tracking and targeting system under the dynamic base platform. The IRU technology is introduced into the airborne photoelectric tracking and targeting systems for the first time, a combined measurement scheme of multiple inertial sensors is proposed, and an optimal data fusion algorithm based on Kalman filtering is developed. A high-precision kinematic model of the IRU system is established, and the IRU system loop controller is designed. After completing the system simulation and dynamic validation, the uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) tracking experiments are carried out, and the dual axis closed-loop tracking error of the dynamic target is within $12.5\mu $ rad (RMSE). The feasibility of the IRU LOS stabilization control technique, the accuracy of the system kinematic model, and the dynamic closed-loop tracking performance are verified. In engineering applications, the IRU-based fine tracking technology significantly improves the system’s anti-interference ability in complex disturbance environments, and the precision of LOS alignment is greatly improved, especially in high-speed motion target capture and precision tracking, showing unique advantages.
