Hybrid Indoor Positioning Using 5G Carrier Phase Measurements

Considering the practical challenges of tracking the phase mismatch between the transmitter and the receiver, this paper presents a detailed and robust system model for the channel impulse response in indoor environments. We introduce a novel hybrid approach for relative positioning that uses both carrier phase and time-difference-of-arrival (TDoA) across multiple receivers to find the position of an indoor transmitter using a simulated indoor 5G network. Our proposed system, grounded in a line-of-sight scenario with multipath interference, demonstrates high tracking accuracy for a mobile transmitter, even across extensive movement ranges, especially compared with purely TDoA positioning methods. the overall positioning error is within 0.0688 meters 95% of the time.
