Sum-Difference Based Angle Estimation: Analysis and Beam Selection

In this paper, we investigate the angle estimation by leveraging a sum-difference beam based method for cooperated integrated sensing and communication systems. Different from independent sensing, where the direction of the reflected sensing signal is predetermined, the direction of this signal for cooperative sensing is unknown. Consequently, the implementation of beam sweeping becomes indispensable for accurate angle estimation at the receiver. Our investigation first analyses the influence of direction and the receiving beam gap on the mean square error of the angle estimation. Then, a beam selection method is proposed to alleviate the performance degradation of the conventional sum-difference based angle estimation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
