Software-Defined Digital Twin Network (SD-DTN) for Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Traffic Management

Autonomous Vehicle (AV) revolution is redefining the way we drive and transforming the future of transportation. With more AVs on the road, traffic management is becoming more complex. Industry and academic experts are looking for solutions to solve traffic routing problems. One solution is to use Digital Twin (DT) to replicate AVs in the physical environment, simulate and analyze road traffic, and send the updated traffic routing to active AVs on the road to change their routes. A robust and efficient communication platform is needed to facilitate data transfer between the AVs on the road and the DT system in the cloud to achieve a seamless DT traffic management system. This paper presents futuristic Software-Defined Digital Twin Network (SD-DTN) architectures that may serve as a communication platform between the vehicle in the physical environment and its DT replica.
