Design of a Fuzzy Logic-Based Inverter Overcurrent Protection System for Electric Vehicles

The present paper proposes a fuzzy logic-based inverter protection system for electric vehicles, which has been implemented on an ESP32 microcontroller. The system utilises current, voltage, and temperature sensors to detect abnormal conditions in real time. The identification of faults initiates a series of events, commencing with the activation of a MOSFET cutoff. This is followed by the transmission of a braking signal via the CAN bus. In contradistinction to fixed-threshold methodologies, the Mamdani fuzzy approach facilitates adaptive decision-making in uncertain circumstances. The experimental results on a prototype electric vehicle (EV) demonstrate an average response time of 132 milliseconds and a 94 % detection success rate across 100 fault tests. Field testing provided evidence that the system functions reliably under real driving conditions.
