Simulation Study on MMW Radiation Detection of Sea Surface Metal Targets

Millimeter-wave radiometers can work all-day and in all-weather conditions. They are less affected by sea waves and have good stealth. Based on these features, this study investigates the application of millimeter-wave radiometers in the passive detection of metal targets on the sea surface. By establishing a millimeter-wave radiation observation model under sea surface backgrounds, the differences in radiation characteristics between metal targets and the sea surface, as well as the detection principles, were systematically analyzed. Simulation experiments using 3mm and 8mm band radiometers were conducted to mimic scanning processes under varying observation angles and distances. Results demonstrate that the 3mm band radiometer significantly outperforms the 8mm band in detection sensitivity and imaging clarity, exhibiting higher antenna temperature contrast and superior edge resolution for targets. This research provides theoretical and experimental references for advancing passive detection technologies for metal targets on the sea surface.
