Investigation of Broadband Cross-Polarization Conversion Using Multiple Resonances on an Metasurface

In this research, we design and simulate a metasurface for cross-polarization conversion (CPC) in broadband microwaves. The metasurface has a resonator Using a split ring that is circular (C-SRR) printed on a copperbacked FR- 4 dielectric substrate inside two perpendicular splits of a split ring resonator (SRR). Simulation results indicate that the metasurface exhibits outstanding CPC performance, attaining up to 73% of a 3 dB fractional bandwidth over between 5 GHz and 15 GHz in frequency, applicable for both normal and oblique incidence. The metasurface's response is invariant to the incoming wave's polarization and angle of incidence, attributed to its symmetric design and cell size in sub-wavelength units. This property positions as a promising candidate for practical applications. Multiple plasmonic resonances at three different frequencies assist the reported broadband polarization conversion ratio (PCR). Numerical and simulation results further support these findings.
