5.8GHz Patch Antenna Design for Vehicular Communication Systems

This paper presents the simulation and performance analysis of an E-shaped microstrip antenna optimized for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) operating at 5.8 GHz. Using MATLAB 2022b PCB Antenna Designer, key performance metrics such as return loss, radiation pattern, and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) were evaluated for an antenna fabricated on an FR-4 substrate with dimensions of 35 × 50 × 1.6 mm³ and a 50 ? microstrip line feed. The antenna demonstrated a return loss of −23.68 dB and a VSWR of 1.140 at 5.75 GHz, indicating strong impedance matching and stable performance in the desired frequency range. Compared with physical measurements, MATLAB simulations showed close alignment in terms of return loss and gain, underscoring the accuracy and reliability of the MATLAB simulation environment for antenna performance evaluation
