Exploring the Impact of Topological Configurations on Quantum and Classical Communication Networks

The evolution of quantum communication networks brings new possibilities for information transfer, yet their practical advantages over classical networks remain uncertain. This research delves into how various topologies-line, grid, star, and circle-affect the performance of both quantum and classical communication systems. By employing the NetSquid simulator, which models quantum networking through discrete events, the analysis compares the fidelity and speed of data transmission in quantum networks utilizing qubit entanglement and classical networks using traditional forwarding methods. The results reveal comparable performance between both types of networks, with subtle differences in efficiency arising from the topological structure of the network. These findings contribute to a better understanding of quantum communication in relation to classical systems and underscore the role of network topology in optimizing quantum network deployments.
