A Randomized Controlled Trial Exploring the Moderating Effect of University Students' Acceptance of IoT Devices on the Relationship Between IoT Device Usage and Physical Performance

This randomized controlled trial investigated the moderating effect of university students' acceptance of IoT devices on the relationship between device usage and physical performance outcomes. A total of 320 undergraduate students were randomly assigned to two experimental groups, with one group using IoT devices during physical education (PE) classes and the other wearing them both during and outside of class. The study focused on the 800m run for female participants and the 1000m run for male participants. Results indicated that the relationship between IoT device usage and performance was significantly moderated by the level of acceptance, with higher levels of acceptance enhancing the positive impact of device usage on physical performance. In contrast, when acceptance was low, the effect of device usage on performance was minimal. These findings emphasize the importance of user acceptance in optimizing the effectiveness of wearable IoT devices for improving physical performance in educational settings.
