A Color-Cast Adjustment-Based Image Enhancement Algorithm for Real-World Underwater Scenes

Underwater images usually have color cast problems. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a bluish, greenish, and reddish underwater image enhancement algorithm. The color correction strategy is connected with the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) algorithm to enhance the contrast of the underwater image. Finally, the proposed network is coupled with a multiscale fusion convolutional neural network backbone to restore high-definition images. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively process underwater color-cast images in the UIEB dataset.
