Space-Time Modulated Metasurface with 1 Bit Controllable Unit Cell for 3D DOA Estimation

Space Time Coded Metasurfaces are becoming a highly studied topic with applications in smart radio environments, beamforming or beam steering, 5G, 6G, 7G and THz communication and many more including radio wave detection and ranging. Its advantages lie in its capability to tailor the Electromagnetic wave in highly specific ways to achieve the effects that would be hard to obtain by conventional methods. In this article we propose a system capable of estimating the direction of arrival of an EM wave using a Space Time Modulated Metasurface. A unit cell for the above was designed and the Performance of the system was analyzed.
