Compact Dual Band Antenna for Sub-6 Ghz and 5G Mmwave Band

This study introduces a compact dual-band microstrip patch antenna that's been fine-tuned for 5 G communication systems. It works efficiently in both the sub- 6 GHz and 5 G millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency ranges, and its size is just $20 ~\text{mm} \times 30 ~\text{mm} \times 1.6 ~\text{mm}$. The antenna is built on a Rogers 2929(lossy) substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.99. It features a round-shaped patch with a rectangular slot and slits to boost bandwidth, along with a meandered feedline to ensure it operates effectively across two bands. A truncated ground plane is included to enhance both bandwidth and radiation efficiency. When tested using CST Studio Suite, the antenna demonstrated a bandwidth of 2.089 GHz at 4.235 GHz and 4.95 GHz at 24.6 GHz. It also showed return loss (S11) values of -20.365 dB and -19.486 dB, respectively. The antenna boasts gains of 2.3 dBi at 4.235 GHz and 5.28 dBi at 24.6 GHz, with directivities of 3.5 dBi and 5.75 dBi. Because of its compact design, broad operational bandwidth, and robust dualband performance, this antenna is well-suited for next-generation 5G communication systems.
