High Performance Low Cost Square Microstrip Crossovers

This manuscript presents a Low cost, compact and wideband square crossover with enhanced performance characteristics. Crossovers are devices that allow signals to traverse two intersecting pathways in the same plane with minimal interference. The proposed design comprises a square patch surrounded by a square ring, interconnected by four microstrip lines, forming a square-slotted crossover configuration. This arrangement strategically establishes multiple extended surface current pathways between the input and output ports, accommodating multiple longer wavelengths to achieve significant bandwidth enhancement and improved miniaturization. The device exhibits superior bandwidth, reduced insertion loss, and excellent compactness compared to recently reported similar works. A detailed, step-bystep procedure for designing these crossovers to operate at specific frequencies is presented. Additionally, guidelines for optimizing various crossover parameters are also included.
