Gap Waveguide Technology Based Slot Array Antenna at 35 GHz

This paper presents a Gap Waveguide Technology based $2 \times 2$ slot array antenna formed by three unconnected layers to provide high gain at 35 GHz frequency. The novel GWG technology eliminates the need for strict electrical contact between the layers making the proposed structure suitable for easy and low-cost manufacturing. The geometry of the proposed array antenna consists of the top radiating layer with a corrugated plate consisting of four radiating slots and bottom has two distribution layers consisting of cavity layer and feed layer. The feed layer is based on Ridge Gap Waveguide (RGW) structure. The antenna exhibits good reflection coefficient characteristics of −21.4 dB at operating frequency of 35 GHz. It has 13 dB gain and offers good radiation characteristics. The proposed antenna serves as an excellent sub array structure for radar applications.
