Artificial Intelligence in Malaysian Education: An Evaluation of Opportunities and Pathways

With the integration of Artificial Intelligence into communication technology into the virtual world, many elements of socio-economic life have changed significantly. In addition to revolutionizing the education system, artificial intelligence in education (AIED) has also changed the way knowledge is delivered, driving learning and the advancement of civilization. However, among the major obstacles faced is the lack of recognition of the importance of technology-based education, which has delayed the implementation of AIED for years. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the extent to which lecturers and teachers as well as students are ready to use AIED in the Malaysian education system. Google Forms was used to distribute the survey questions used in this investigation. Students and lecturers/teachers from various levels of education comprised 57 respondents who participated in this study. According to the findings, 50.9% of those surveyed were aware of the application of AI in education. In addition, 71.9% of respondents were aware of the positive impact of AI on education, while 63.1% felt more confident in the learning or teaching process with the help of AI. These findings indicate that despite the awareness of the role of AI in education, there are still challenges in its widespread implementation, especially related to adequate infrastructure and training. It is hoped that this will contribute to government policies or related units as a reference and basis for broader AI implementation policies in Malaysia.
