Evaluation of Fast-Charging System Designs for Two-Wheeler EVs: A Comparative Optimization Approach

The rapid adoption of electric two-wheelers in urban and semi-urban regions has underscored the growing demand for efficient and reliable fast-charging systems. This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of various fast-charging system architectures tailored specifically for electric two-wheelers. Through a comparative optimization approach, the research examines key design parameters, including charging time, thermal management, power conversion efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and battery health impact. Three representative charger configurations, conventional DC fast chargers, modular multistage chargers, and high-frequency resonant converters, are analyzed using simulation models and real-world performance data. Additionally, optimization techniques such as multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGA) are applied to identify the best trade-offs between charging speed and system reliability. The findings highlight that while high-frequency systems offer reduced charging times, modular architectures provide superior scalability and thermal efficiency. This study contributes to the advancement of fast-charging infrastructure by guiding future developments towards optimized, cost-effective, and user-friendly solutions for the electric two-wheeler segment.
