IoT Based Rain Sensing Motorized Umbrella

This paper presents an IoT-based rain-sensing motorized umbrella system designed for automated and remote-controlled operation to enhance user convenience during rainfall. The proposed system integrates an Arduino Uno microcontroller with a rain sensor, a push button, a servo motor (SG90), and an HC-05 Bluetooth module to achieve three operation modes: automatic, manual, and remote. In automatic mode, the umbrella will operate based on rain detection. Manual mode enables direct control via a push button, while remote mode facilitates operation through Bluetooth commands sent from a mobile application. The servomotor rotates the umbrella shaft accurately by 90° rotation to oper or close the umbrella smoothly. An LED and buzzer provide real-time feedback to notify users of operational status changes. Performance evaluation includes measurement of duty cycle and system efficiency to optimize power consumption and mechanical actuation. Experimental results demonstrate fast response to rainfall, reliable sensor integration, and seamless Bluetooth communication. The system’s energy-efficient design and multimode control approach ensure enhanced safety and user convenience. This work contributes a novel IoT-enabled solution that automates umbrella operation, eliminating manual intervention and providing flexible control options for effective protection against unexpected rain.
