A Rapid Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem (RECC)-Based Augmented Certificateless Signcryption Model for IIoT-Cloud Security

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has been integrated with cloud computing to help in the data driven decisions and improve productivity in the industrial operations. Unfortunately, the security of data transferred from IIoT devices to the cloud is still a major remaining challenge; traditional encryption systems are nevertheless too vulnerable. In this paper, a Rapid Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem (RECC) based augmented certificateless signcryption model is introduced to provide security in IIoT cloud environments. By combining the elliptic curve cryptography with certificateless signcryption, the proposed model achieves robust security while avoiding the overhead of certificate management. Since RECC algorithm guarantees computational efficiency, it would be suitable for ran constrained IIoT devices. We combine confidentiality, integrity, authentication and non-repudiation into a single, light weighted cryptographic operation at the lowest communication overhead and computational overhead. Through rigorous security analysis, we show that the model is robust to common attacks, such as replay, impersonation, and chosen ciphertext attacks. Moreover, the certificateless and identity based signcryption schemes are compared with the performance evaluation which exhibits tremendous computational efficiency. In this work, we provide the first scalable and secure framework to protect sensitive data in IIoT-cloud ecosystems, while maintaining trust and reliability in industrial operations.
