Influences of distribution lines on the DC total electric field near HVDC transmission lines

In order to solve the problem of electric field exceeding the limit value at sensitive environmental points near the built UHVDC transmission lines, a method of using adjacent medium and low voltage distribution lines to control the total electric field was proposed. A test platform is built up, which is used to simulate the shielding effect of total electric fields by the distribution lines. And the effects of different configuration strategies of the distribution line on the ground total electric field are analyzed. The experimental results show that the shielding effect has a polarity effect. For positive polarity electric fields, the shielding effect of insulated distribution lines is better, and the impact of the voltage of the distribution line is smaller. For negative polarity electric fields, the shielding effect of distribution lines using bare wires is better, and the voltage of distribution lines has a greater impact. The higher the voltage of distribution lines, the better the shielding effect.
