Practical Criteria for Transient Voltage Stability: A Comprehensive Review

Over the past decades, major power grids worldwide have witnessed frequent large-scale blackouts caused by voltage instability, resulting in significant economic losses. The growing integration of renewable energy and widespread adoption of power electronic devices have fundamentally altered system dynamics, introducing new challenges in maintaining transient voltage stability. Therefore, efficient and reliable assessment of transient voltage stability is crucial for ensuring grid security. This paper first delves into the concept of transient voltage stability, then conducts a comprehensive review and comparative analysis of practical criteria for transient voltage stability adopted by global power systems. Finally, based on international criteria comparisons and practical engineering requirements, recommendations are proposed from three dimensions to improve the practical criteria.
