Influence of Ice Characteristics and Environmental Factors on the Initial Ice Shedding of Transmission Lines

This study addresses the issue of ice accretion disasters on transmission lines, focusing on the influence of ice characteristics, wind speed, and ambient temperature on initial ice shedding. By establishing a dynamic numerical calculation model for ice melting and shedding processes, combined with heat transfer principles, the dynamic changes in ice melting and temperature fields under different working conditions were simulated and analyzed. The results indicate that an increase in ambient temperature reduces surface heat loss from the ice layer, significantly shortens melting time, and promotes preferential shedding of ice accumulation near the tower head area. Variations in wind speed directly affect the initial location and progression of ice shedding by altering convective heat transfer efficiency and heat distribution. Additionally, differences in ice types and structural parameters of the transmission lines further regulate the critical conditions for ice shedding.
