A photovoltaic VSG power control strategy based on a pre-filter and lead-lag compensator

With industrial development, energy demand is continuously increasing. Currently, traditional energy sources are becoming increasingly scarce, leading to a growing proportion of photovoltaic (PV) power sources in the power system. The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) technology, by changing the control strategy structure, enables grid-connected PV inverters to exhibit the inertia and damping characteristics of synchronous generators during operation. However, the VSG control strategy suffers from high overshoot and long regulation time in power dynamic response. To address this, a novel VSG control strategy based on a pre-filter and a lead-lag element in the active power loop is proposed. A pre-filter with lead characteristics is incorporated into the active power reference channel specifically to improve the rapid response of the inverter’s active power control. At the same time, this approach provides greater adjustment flexibility of positive damping, effectively suppressing power overshoot and thereby better damping low-frequency oscillations of active power. Finally, simulations are conducted in MATLAB/Simulink, and the simulation results are consistent with theoretical analysis, demonstrating the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
