Electrostatic Field-Controlled Tunable Photonic Crystal Layers for Enhanced Semi-Transparent Organic Solar Cell Performance

This study proposes an electrostatically tunable pho-tonic crystal layer that integrates dynamic optical modulation and self-healing into semi-transparent organic solar cells. Charged colloidal nanoparticles are aligned under an external electric field to control the photonic bandgap, while the embedded polymer matrix with dynamic bonds enables microcrack repair. The system achieves a 150 nm bandgap shift across 72% of the visible spectrum, 92% healing efficiency, 45% average transmittance, and 8.2% power conversion efficiency. This multifunctional design offers a scalable solution for adaptive optoelectronic applications in wearable and building-integrated photovoltaics.
