Development and Integration of a USB-MIDI Platform for Music Technology Education

The advancement of digital music technology has enabled new approaches to music education, fostering interdisciplinary learning through hands-on experience. This paper presents the development and integration of a USB-MIDI platform aimed at enhancing music technology education through a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach. The proposed platform combines Arduino-based USB-MIDI device development, Google’s NSynth neural synthesis engine, and a game-based learning framework to create an interactive learning experience. By incorporating Serious Game elements, students can engage in a structured, gamified learning process that covers fundamental concepts such as MIDI communication, electronic circuit design, and AI-driven sound synthesis. Future work includes evaluating the effectiveness of this approach in increasing student engagement and comprehension of digital music technologies.
